This article explains how to use the new AI-powered budget feature, which automatically suggests budget line items and line item types when setting up a new budget from a file. This feature streamlines budget creation by categorizing line items into standard groups and pre-populating cost types. This feature saves time and improves accuracy when building project budgets.

1. Setting Up an AI Budget

1. Start by creating a new project budget on your platform.

2. Select Generate From a File.

3. Upload your budget document (Supported formats are PDF, JPEG, and PNG. Max file size is 20mb)

4. The AI process will automatically analyze the file and extract line items.

5. Wait for the AI to finish processing. You’ll see a progress indicator during this step.

2. Understanding Cost Type Suggestions

1. Once processing is complete, the AI will categorize each budget line item into one of 25 standard groups.

2. These groups are mapped to line item types, and the cost type for each line item is pre-populated based on the AI’s classification.

3. A visual indicator (an icon) appears next to line items that have been confidently categorized by the AI.

4. If the AI cannot confidently categorize a line item, no visual indicator will appear for that item.

3. Editing and Reviewing Cost Types

1. Review the suggested cost types for each line item.

2. If needed, you can manually change the cost type for any line item.

   1. When you change a pre-populated cost type, the visual indicator is removed—even if you revert to the original suggestion.

3. Proceed through the budget setup as usual, making adjustments as necessary.
