Saving an Unbalanced Draw

Prev Next

Purpose

The Unbalanced Draw Saving feature allows users to save work on a draw request even when the funding uses and sources do not match (the draw is "unbalanced"). Previously, users had to fully balance all line items before saving, which could be cumbersome for complex draws. Now, users can save progress at any point and return to complete the draw later.

Key Features

  1. Save Draws in an Unbalanced State: Save progress on a draw request without first balancing all line items.

  2. No Placeholder Amounts Required: There's no need to enter placeholder or "fake" numbers just to preserve work-in-progress.

Target Users

Users entering or editing draw requests.

How It Works

Saving an Unbalanced Draw

  1. Start a new or edit an existing draw request: Navigate to the draw request and click Edit to begin entering amounts.

  2. Enter draw amounts: Fill in the amounts for the line items to fund. There's no need to complete all line items or balance the draw.

  3. Save the progress: Click Save at any time, even if the draw is unbalanced. Progress will be saved, and the draw can be completed later.

Note:

  • When a draw is unbalanced, you can still save the changes, but you’ll be blocked from moving the status forward until it’s been balanced.

  • The draw request will remain in an "unbalanced" state until all required fields are completed and the amounts are balanced.

  • Users can return at any time to finish and balance the draw before final submission.

  • The system will notify users that there is a discrepancy between the funding amount and disbursements.

Benefits

  • Save in-progress work on complex draws without forcing premature balancing.

  • No need for placeholder values to work around save validation.

  • More flexible data entry across multiple sessions — return to a draw and pick up where you left off.

Best Practices

  • There's no longer a need to enter placeholder or "fake" numbers just to save work.

  • This feature is especially useful for large or complex draw requests with many line items.

  • The draw must be balanced before final submission, but saving unbalanced allows for more flexible data entry.

FAQ

Can I submit a draw request while it's unbalanced?

No. Only progress can be saved in an unbalanced state. The draw must be balanced before submission.

Will my unbalanced data be lost if I log out?

No — as long as Save has been clicked, progress will be preserved.

What does the discrepancy warning mean?

It means the funding uses and sources do not match. They need to be balanced before the draw can be submitted.

Can I edit my saved unbalanced draw later?

Yes. The draw can be returned to and edited as many times as needed before submission.

Is this feature available for all users?

Yes — it's available to all users who can create or edit draw requests.
